AB OBJECTIVE: The following measures have been taken in our corporate group
in order to prevent workers from contracting HIV and to avoid panic
among workers as well as financial losses of the group when HIV
carriers/AIDS patients appear. METHODS: 1) Education: Doctors and
counselors in charge of AIDS take part in workers' meetings to have
discussions on AIDS. Brochures and video tapes on AIDS are also
distributed to workers. 2) Serological test for HIV antibody: Workers
are free to undergo the test anonymously on a voluntary basis at the
medical care facilities of the group. 3) Counseling: Workers tested
positive are given incognito counselings whenever they want. Workers at
distant locations or reluctant to see counselors in person can be
counseled on a hot line. 4) Coodination with relevant company staff:
Heads, personnel staff and union leaders are encouraged to arrange
worker's meetings to discuss AIDS and to confirm the basic attitude
toward how to practically support workers who have been tested positive.
RESULT AND CONCLUSION: The above measures have so far been effective on
both the prevention of AIDS and the protection of HIV carriers as well.
